Located next to the Palazzo dei Banchi, Bologna's highly regarded Museo Civico Archeologico (Archaeological Museum) occupies the building of an old hospital and is overflowing with one of Italy's most extensive collections of antiquities.
Attractions at the Museo Civico Archeologico (Archaeological Museum), in Bologna, include a major Egyptian collection - with a number of outstanding Egyptian mummies, historic items from the Iron age Villanova culture, jewellery, artefacts from Etruscan Velzna, funerary art, ancient vases and the museum also contains a number of well-preserved pieces from Roman times.
Other attractions at Bologna's Museo Civico Archeologico include a gallery of casts, with many detailed copies of famous Roman and Greek sculptures. Of particular interest at the Archaeological Museum is a bronze Certosa jar that is more than 1,500 years old.
